Language matters. It’s not about being politically correct — and you really should go google the history of the that phrase. My eye rolls are not big enough. *sigh*
Read MoreBeing a part of the internet since its launch, like most earliest adopters, I used to write all the time. It started with email lists with friends of a daily quote and some thoughts, and after I started working in the commercial internet industry, I moved into blogging (mainly for myself), and then exploring it on a professional front, both as a writer and a college curricula developer and instructor.
I’ve realized some small scale success — was on the Top 10 List for one month on Medium, got picked up by Canadian and international mainstream media on a post about the sexism in startup funding, and called out some of the most egregious behaviours in my local tech community that showed me who did and did not have that innate integrity. My writing has generated impact. The most rewarding having been when I’ve shared something personal and vulnerable and the private responses that its generated.
I haven’t been writing consistently for a while — a graduate degree and other life events took priority. I’m still proud of a few of those early pieces, so I’ve republished them here. Be kind. They were written from a certain perspective and at a certain time…often quite long ago.
And now, I feel it’s time to reinvigorate this muscle. #staytuned
